For almost a year, I barely stepped into my studio.
Life had other plans.
There were health issues to work through, a move across several states, a new home to settle into, and eventually an entirely new studio and dye lab to build.
If you’ve ever had a season like that, you know creativity doesn’t disappear; it just gets pushed to the side while life demands your attention.
Creativity Doesn’t Always Stop. Sometimes It Waits.
One thing I realized during this past year is that I wasn’t losing my creativity.
I was simply using my energy somewhere else.
Sometimes the most creative thing we can do is solve the problems right in front of us.
At the time, that meant unpacking boxes instead of unpacking ideas.
Time Away Creates Perspective
Stepping away from the studio also gave me something I hadn’t expected.
Perspective.
When I finally had time to return, I realized I didn’t want to work exactly the way I had before.
Over time, I had found myself chasing YouTube algorithms and creating art that I thought other people wanted to see.
During my time away, I realized that wasn’t what excited me most.
What I missed was experimenting, being curious, and learning something new.
That’s what I want this next chapter to be about.
Not just the finished pieces, but the exploration, the discoveries, and the creative decisions that happen along the way.

Coming Back Doesn’t Mean Starting Over
One thing I’ve learned is that returning to your creative work isn’t about catching up.
It’s about continuing.
Everything you’ve experienced becomes part of the work you make next.
Even the time you spent away.
Every challenge, every interruption, and every detour shapes how you see your work when you return.
